In detail
The FireChill ALT500 brings the exciting ability to capture waste heat to the entry level sub-50RT end of the market. Based on FireChill’s AC500, the ALT delivers a step change in fuel efficiency by enabling the ALT to attach simply to an alternate heat source, typically a gas-fired generator. Savings on energy can be significant. Where the ALT is fired entirely by waste heat, energy costs are effectively reduced to zero.
Addition of the ALT to a conventional CHP set-up delivers tri-generation, or CCHP, allowing the simultaneous delivery of heating, cooling and power from one system.
Dual mode
In instances where heat from the alternate waste heat source is either intermittent or of insufficient grade, the ALT’s unique dual mode capability allows users to supplement low grade alternate heat provision with direct-fired gas to maintain consistent cooling output levels. Through dual moding the whole range of heat input profiles, from 100% waste heat to 100% direct-fired and every point in between, is thereby enabled.
Making connections
Direct connection to the turbine exhaust simplifies the system design and eliminates the need for intermediate heat exchangers and other hardware that increase installation costs and degrade performance. The sophisticated on board control systems within the ALT allows it to integrate and communicate readily with other control environments.
Scaling to meet demand
As with the AC, the ALT500 readily scales up via the FireChill MultiPack product to deliver increased cooling load up to 30RT (105kw). Where it combines with a Capstone 30 or 65, then a configuration of two or four is the most appropriate. See the section on MultiPack
